- 1738: The border dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland known as Cresap’s War or the Conojocular War ends when a treaty is signed between the two States. That treaty established the border and resulted in an exchange of prisoners between Pennsylvania and Maryland.
- 1787: The U.S Constitutional Convention begins in Philadelphia after delegates from 7 States have arrived.
- 1865: Approximately three hundred people die when an ordinance depot explodes in Mobile, Alabama.
- 1895: Novelist and playwright Oscar Wilde is convicted of gross indecency with male persons and is sentenced to 2 years in prison.
- 1940: British and French forces at Boulogne-sur-Mer surrender to the German 2nd Panzer Division at the Battle of Boulogne during World War 2.
- 1953: The U.S conducts a nuclear artillery site at the Nevada Test Site.
