Bingo’s Birthday Month
December is Bingo’s Birthday Month, and it’s the perfect time for people to reacquaint themselves with an old classic. It’s a game that’s been loved and is still loved by people all around the U.S., and it can often be found at church fundraisers or events thrown by charity organizations.
There are also commercial bingo games that can be found at casinos located in the state of Nevada or in Native American bingo halls located on reservations across the country. This is a great month for people to familiarize themselves with an old classic and go to some games with friends and family members.
The History of Bingo’s Birthday Month
Lotto is a game that goes all the way back to the first half of the 16th century. It was originally played in Italy from 1530 on and eventually circulated around Europe. In France, a similar game known as Le Lotto appeared during the 18th century, and in the 19th century, the game of bingo was adopted to teach children their multiplication tables and spelling.
In the United States, a similar game to Italian lotto was created by Hugh J. Ward in the 1920s. He would end up copyrighting it and published a rule book on it in the early 1930s. It was called “Beano.”
The game would be popularized by Edwin Lowe after he saw people playing Beano at a traveling carnival near Atlanta, Georgia. One of his friends allegedly yelled “Bingo” instead of “Beano” when she won, so a modern version of the game with that name was created.
Although we’re well aware of the history of Bingo, we were unable to find out who invented Bingo’s Birthday Month. We’ll continue to search for its origins, but we’re afraid that they might be lost to the shifting sands of time.
Observing Bingo’s Birthday Month
Going to bingo games with loved ones is probably the way many people will observe this month. But what should they do if they can’t find a game in their area? Well, they should probably take it upon themselves to host their own bingo game for friends and family members to enjoy.
The supplies for this game aren’t too expensive, and hosting a bingo game can be a lot of fun. Anyone and everyone hosting or playing bingo during this month should be sure to use the hashtag #BingosBirthdayMonth on social media to let their fellow Internet denizens know all about it.
This is a fun month for people to enjoy, so people shouldn’t be surprised if they hear the immortal words “BINGO!” screamed wherever they end up going during the month of December.
