Flatmate’s Day
Flatmates Day is a holiday observed on the 24th of March every year. As the name of this day suggests, it celebrates the people with whom a dorm or an apartment is shared. Flatmates, also known as roommates in the U.S., are the people who help pay the rent and/or bills and may occasionally chip in towards the grocery bill.
These are the people we trust and with whom we end up sharing our lives on a day-to-day basis. This is the perfect day to show that roommate just how important they really are by throwing them a party, buying them a card, or even just saying thank you to them.
The History of Flatmates Day
There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding this holiday. Some people believe that it originated in 2014, while others believe that it originated a little bit later than that.
According to our research, we believe that this holiday began in 2016 as a way for a person to thank their roommate. Of course, we can’t independently verify if that’s accurate or not, but we’ll continue to stay on the case nonetheless and see if we can ever get the full history of this holiday.
Observing Flatmates Day
How can a person celebrate Flatmates Day? Well, they can take a few moments to show their flatmate some love on this day, that’s how. They can take over their chores for the day, take them out to dinner, or even buy them a card. It can also be celebrated by throwing a party or planning a trip for you and your flatmate. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
And while you’re taking your flatmates out on the town, why not use the hashtag #FlatmatesDay to spread the word about this holiday all across the Internet? That hashtag is also a good way to thank your flatmate on social media.
