Global Family Day
In the United States, there are quite a few holidays that are observed on the 1st of January, with the most notable one being New Year’s Day. However, the one holiday that really stands out on this day is probably Global Family Day. This positive holiday encourages everyone to think of the whole of mankind as their extended family.
It’s a day that realizes humanity can only survive if it comes together as one family. If we can’t do that, then we’re surely doomed. And this holiday reminds us of this very simple fact to encourage us to spread the message of unity and peace.
The History of Global Family Day
This day first began in 1997 when the United Nations General Assembly decided to launch the International Decade for the Culture of Peace & Non-Violence for the Children of the World—to begin at the beginning of the new millennium. In the United States, Linda Grover began as the primary promoter of this holiday.
Another promotion for this event was the book “One Day in Peace,” published on January 1, 2000. The plot of this book revolved around a single day in the future where there was no war, only peace. In 2001, Global Family Day was created as an annual event.
