National Beans ‘N’ Franks Day
Observed annually on July 13th, National Beans N’ Franks Day encourages everyone to enjoy a big pot of beans and franks. It’s a holiday that occurs right in the middle of what is known as National Hot Dog Month and is celebrated by people all over the U.S. who love this dish.
Although no one truly knows when beans and franks were first combined, it is known that people have enjoyed this dish for decades before Van Camp’s trademarked the name Beanie Weenies and began selling their canned beans and franks during the 1980s. Now, this dish is enjoyed by thousands of people—many of whom have their own recipes.
The History of National Beans N’ Franks Day
We tried researching the origins of beans and franks, but we just couldn’t find out exactly when they were first served together. Hot dogs have been sold since the late 19th century, and we know that cowboys enjoyed baked beans during the same period, so we imagine that someone must have combined beans and franks around this time. Unfortunately, we don’t have any proof of that, but we do know that they’ve been enjoyed for decades.
As far as the holiday goes, we’re also unsure of when National Beans N’ Franks Day was established, who invented it, or even where it was originally observed. All that we know is that it’s been celebrated since at least the early 20th century.
Observing National Beans N’ Franks Day
If you grab a pack of hot dogs and a can of baked beans, then you’re ready to celebrate National Beans N’ Franks Day. Of course, you can also buy a can of beans and franks, but we personally think that people should try making their own so that they can customize it to their tastes. While you’re enjoying this holiday, be sure to use the hashtag #BeansNFranksDay to spread the word about it to bean and frank lovers everywhere.
