No Pants Day
No Pants Day is a holiday celebrated on the first Friday of May. As the name suggests, it is an unofficial holiday during which people do not wear their pants at home or in public. According to the spirit of the day, those who participate should go about their day as if they are unaware that they are not wearing pants.
History of No Pants Day
While no one knows exactly when No Pants Day originated, it is believed to have begun sometime during the mid-1980s. According to legend, in 1985 or 1986, a man had his wife iron his pants because he had an important meeting at work. However, he was running late and had to rush to work—unfortunately, he was so preoccupied with not being late that he forgot to put his pants on and ended up boarding the subway pantless.
Once he realized he was not wearing any pants, it was too late, so he just smiled and pretended nothing was wrong. This story was passed around until it eventually became the origin of No Pants Day.
No Pants Day Customs & Celebrations
There is only one tradition associated with No Pants Day: to go pantless on the first Friday in May, and while doing so, pretend that you are actually wearing pants. Of course, participants should be careful not to break the law while observing this holiday because law enforcement may not have a sense of humor about it.
If you are uncomfortable with going out on No Pants Day without pants, then you can always wear something else instead of pants. You could try wearing a skirt or kilt on that day. That might not only be easier to do but also may keep your lower half warmer as well.
